the priviledged illiterate / the non-definitive Canadian / the returning generation

another 3 in 1, triple post:

ONE: Priviledged Illiteracy

- the encounter in local restaurants and claiming illiteracy. (unable to read Chinese)
- to me: i feel stupid for being illiterate
- to the restaurant worker: i am priviledged - (have money and education from foreign lands), which also indicates a moderate chance to rip me off.

TWO: Canada's loose/borderless national identity
- Canada's "mosaic" and non-patriotic identity can also be said to be a lack of identity.. void of nationalism
- this 'looseness' allows for one to explore and perhaps take on other identities much easier or embodie multiple identities
- this freedom allows one to define the self as they please
- it also allows a particular openness to understanding other cultures or taking on other cultures as part of their own.
- double / multiple consciousness

THREE : The Returning Generation
- the 2nd generation foreign born individuals moving back to their 'homelands'
- what will this generation do ? how will they change things ? what will they bring back?
- increasing development of third world countries, this returning generation will play a large role in the modernization - stepping up of developing countries
- increasing diversity, mixing of culture, increasing complexity of diaspora.
- modernization / globalization
- the alien-non-alien
