China's own universe

it seems one of China's strengths is having been so insular for so long, the only ones who truly understand the culture (and the market) are those on the inside. foreign investors trying to tap into the Chinese market have failed time after time.

it seems on International news more and more there are stories related to China and its economy.

this NY Time Article: Internet Boom In China is Built on Virtual Fun

Describes the failure of Google to tap the Asian market in terms on Internet usage and trends. QQ.com has surpassed Google in size and deals supremely with the Chinese market.

Other issues deals with the social issues of workers and population control and aging demographic. There seems to be increasing pressure especially on the young people of China of the current generation to build up the new country and cater to the old.

NY Times: China Scrambles for Stability as Its Workers Age

The popularity of art coming from this generation of people in China is exploding because of the global attention that the world is taking to the issues.

Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhang Ke is receiving acclaimed success as his films touch upon the experiences of young people in rural China.

His movie the Platform : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258885/
illustrates the developments amongst a group of friends during those preeminent years in the 80's. The film looks more at the cultural changes as China opened up and as popular culture first from Hong Kong and Japan, US flooded in, influencing the young people. Already the cultural has caught up embracing at full-speed TV, Internet and popular media.

That was already 2-decades ago. (weird as I am seeing these long-term changes for the first time within my lifetime).. Now this film represents the next step.

*note "one of the most important director's today" and he's Chinese.. I never thought I'd see the day - growing up almost resenting my seemingly "overly practical, non-creative and studious" roots.
